BioHydrokinesis. He cannot conjure water, but Afrika can easily manipulate it. He can use his powers to create powerful torrents and jets of water within the proper proximity. Afrika can manipulate water into any form he chooses – one of his favorites is to mold it into a whip-like shape and use it to slap people across the face. He cannot, however, change water into ice. |
The first-born son and first child to the Terrenes, a family based in Portugal. The Terrene family was a wealthy one, and neither parent had the time to raise their son, so by the time Afrika turned five years old, Jaime and Ines shipped their son off to a boarding school in southern France. His sister Amerika joined him a few years later, and the rest of his siblings – Oceania, Europa, and Asia – attended the boarding school in the years to come. He held no love for his parents, who were distant to each of their children - people joked that it was amazing Jaime and Ines even reproduced. Living as far away from them as he could worked just fine for Afrika. Living in a boarding school aside, Afrika would hardly call his life interesting until he reached his eleventh birthday. Not long after his birthday, Afrika became deathly ill, and was shuttled from France back to Portugal to recover. He spent that year and the next being home schooled by his parents. It was the first time he saw a softer side to them. He begrudgingly accepted their assistance in helping him recover. But secretly, Afrika reveled in the attention his parents showed him – attention they had never given to any of his brothers and sisters. Those years were important ones in Afrika's life because it affected him greatly and began to shape his future. Firstly, Afrika loved to play football, but he couldn't while he was sick, and his parents encouraged him to find another hobby. He settled for painting, and it's a hobby he's carried with him for years. Secondly, the attention his parents granted Afrika made him long for more, not only from his parents, but from everyone. Standing in the limelight made Afrika feel good about himself. Lastly, as he recovered, Afrika discovered he could control water. He never told anyone about his ability, preferring to keep it to himself. He did ultimately make a full recovery, and by the time he was thirteen, Afrika lived at the French boarding school once again. He quickly regained his popularity with the students, and it seemed like Afrika never left at all. Before recovering his health, Afrika preferred to be alone, but when he returned he became far more involved in the school; his most noted achievement was becoming captain of his school's football team. Afrika graduated from the boarding school as healthy as could be, and parted ways with his siblings to study art in Paris. He didn't feel like going back to Portugal. Something about their parents and French women. He stayed in Paris for a few years, played in a semi-professional football league in France, and dabbled with painting. Presently, Afrika is on "vacation" in Rio de Janeiro with his brother Oceania and his nephew Miguel after catching word of the apocalypse, and that it was happening in Rio de Janeiro, where his sister lives. He is less than pleased at the fact Oceania also has elemental powers, but for the most part, Afrika is keeping that to himself. |
Outwardly, Afrika seems like a friendly, outgoing person who enjoys socializing with people. While he may not be the best conversationalist in the world, he is very affectionate in his relationships, and that is enough to endear him to some people. This light-hearted facet of Afrika's personality conceals his less than pleasant qualities, such as vanity. To call him arrogant or haughty would be exaggerating the trait, though. Self-centered may be the better term. Afrika loves himself more than he loves anyone else, and he revels in the limelight. Jealousy comes surprisingly easy to Afrika. The possibility that the rest of his brothers and sisters may have powers upsets him. Until Oceania demonstrated his talents to Afrika, he prided himself on the strange talent to manipulate water, attributing it to his uniqueness. He is also prone to bouts of moodiness, especially when he doesn't get his way. Afrika can be his cheerful, outgoing self at one moment, but when things go sour for him, Afrika becomes sullen and irritable at the drop of a hat. |
Afrika stands around 5'9", and is very well built. Lately he's been growing out his red hair to his waist. This is pretty impractical for a football player, but Afrika isn't complaining at all. His fingers and clothes are usually stained with paint or dirt, depending on what activity he's been doing, yet he still manages to have a refined appearance. He dresses in simple t-shirts and jeans, but no matter what outfit he's wearing, Afrika carries himself with an almost regal air. |
